Alaa is a classmate that describes herself as honest, paradoxical, and passionate. After a few reflective meetings, I noted that she is not comfortable talking about herself. She then allowed me to take a look into her sketchbook (a rare opportunity), and in it, I found all I needed. She expresses herself deeply through her drawings, and I was interested in seeing how she would depict herself. I asked her to draw a self-portrait on acetate, and shone a light through it so it could reflect onto her face.
In many of the portraits, she looks away, but her drawing daringly looks straight into the camera.
